Hi everyone! Today I’m back with another Understanding Astrology lesson so you can learn more about astrology and how it affects your life and personality.

I’ll be exploring ‘Your Big Three,’ which is, in basic terms, your Sun sign, your Moon sign, and your Rising sign. Some might consider these signs the most important parts of your birth chart.

Let’s get into it!

What Does Your ‘Big Three’ Mean?

In astrology, your “Big Three” signs, comprised of the Sun, Moon, and Rising signs, play a pivotal role in shaping your unique personality and life path.

Together, these three signs create a portrait of your character, with the Sun illuminating your purpose, the Moon uncovering your emotions, and the Rising sign defining your social persona. Delving into your Big Three signs provides a deeper understanding of yourself, offering insights into your strengths, weaknesses, and the unique journey you’re destined to embark upon.

How to Find Your Big Three

The easiest way to find your Big Three is by using an online birth chart calculator. Several astrology websites have this tool, but my favorite one to use is from Astrology Cafe.

All you have to do is put in your birth date, exact birth time, and place of birth, and boom! You’ll have your complete birth chart in seconds. If you don’t know your exact birth time, you can still use the birth chart calculator, but you won’t be able to see your complete birth chart as the birth time is vital to know.

Sun Signs

You probably already know your Sun sign. Most of the time when someone asks, “What’s your Zodiac sign?” this is the sign you will give them. Your Sun sign is determined by the position of the Sun at the time you were born. For example, I was born on May 31, so my Sun sign is Gemini.

Your Sun sign represents your identity and outer self. This sign tells you what drives you to become the truest version of yourself. If you research your Sun sign, you can get a better understanding of yourself, how to express yourself, and how to revitalize your energy.

If your Sun sign is an Air element, you probably love to socialize and you love expressing yourself intellectually. The Air signs are Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius.

If your Sun sign is an Earth element, you love being productive, and you are most likely motivated by material things. You are also very practical. The Earth signs are Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn.

If your Sun sign is a Fire element, you are motivated by your inspirations and goals. You are also known to be very passionate and creative. The Fire signs are Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius.

If your Sun sign is a Water element, you are probably motivated by your emotional desires—these signs are known as the empaths of the Zodiac. The Water element signs are Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces.

Moon Signs

Your Moon sign represents your inner self. This sign describes your emotional side, feelings, desires, and anything else below the surface. While your Sun sign tells you more about how you express yourself to the world, your Moon sign digs deeper into what makes you tick. It can give you a good idea of how you might react in emotional situations.

You can find your Moon sign in your birth chart, but your Moon sign is determined by the placement of the Moon on the day you were born. The Moon was in the Cancer constellation when I was born on May 31, so my Moon sign is Cancer.

If your Moon sign is an Air element (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius), you feel most at home when you are socializing, which is why you probably like to talk about your feelings. You are usually logical when it comes to your emotions, so you process them just like you would with any other information.

If your Moon sign is a Water element (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces), you are probably empathic and compassionate. You are probably pretty emotional, so you feel most aligned when your emotions are deeply involved. These signs crave intimacy and human connections to feel safe.

If your Moon sign is a Fire element (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius), you are probably impulsive. You like to say yes and ask questions later. Fire signs in the Moon like to express their strength and confidence, and they really don’t like negative talk.

If your Moon sign is an Earth element (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn), you will react to emotional experiences with steadiness and reason. You feel most aligned with your inner self when you are being productive and working towards a goal you want to achieve.

Rising Signs

Your Rising sign (also known as an Ascendant) reveals your perception of reality and describes your social personality. Your Rising sign is determined by the sign of the Zodiac that was rising on the Eastern horizon at the time you were born.

Your Rising sign will tell you both about your outer self and inner self, and how to balance the two.

If your Rising sign is a Fire element (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius), you may be confrontational and blunt to others at first, but you love to make sure everyone feels included at any social gathering. Fire signs thrive on physical energy, so they seem very extroverted, even if they are introverts at heart.

If your Rising sign is an Earth element (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn), you probably love the things around you and you are seen as a worldly individual (I mean, you are an Earth sign after all). Earth signs may be a bit materialistic. But Earth signs also value stability, so these signs are great for keeping you grounded during stressful times.

If your Rising sign is an Air element (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius), you thrive on social energy and having a good conversation. You are probably mentally quick, and friendly, and you love to express yourself verbally. You also strive to understand everyone around you.

If your Rising sign is a Water element (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces), you are probably very caring to those around you. You’re also probably sensitive (since Water signs are emotional), and you’re easily influenced by the world around you. You’re also good at picking up on others’ emotions.
