Valentine’s Day is rapidly approaching, and you don’t have to break the bank for an unforgettable gift.
From thoughtful presents like a handwritten poem to romantic experiences such as a spontaneous road trip, there are plenty of ways to make this February 14th extra special without spending too much.
Keep reading for seven of my favorite Valentine’s Day gift ideas that your partner is sure to love.
Prepare Their Favorite Meal
Cooking your partner their favorite meal is an affordable and thoughtful way to show them how much you care. Not only does it show that you know their tastes, but it also lets them eat a dish that they enjoy and remember fondly.
It might take some research beforehand to figure out what their favorite meal is, but it’s definitely worth the effort for the special occasion or even just a random Tuesday night. Plus, if you don’t think you have time or means to make a full meal, there are other affordable gift ideas such as ordering in from their favorite restaurant. TBH, I appreciate an affordable Little Caesars pizza.
Whatever option you choose, your partner will probably love it either way. I mean, who doesn’t love food?
Plan a Picnic
Grab a blanket, a basket, some snacks, and maybe a bottle of wine if you drink. You can create an unforgettable experience that radiates romance with a relaxing picnic.
Think of delicious foods that both you and your partner will enjoy, such as fresh fruit and cheese platters, chocolate-dipped strawberries, sandwiches, or even charcuterie boards with cured meats if you’re feeling fancy.
Finish off by planning romantic activities that you can do together like a game of frisbee or just lying back on a blanket and watching the clouds. A picnic is a perfect way to create a special memory with your partner.
Write a Poem or a Card
If you’re looking for an affordable yet meaningful gift idea for your special someone, why not try writing a poem or a thoughtful card?
Whether you choose to express your sincere appreciation of your partner, share a beautiful memory, or simply remind them of how much they mean to you, it’s sure to make them feel loved and appreciated. Personally, I’m a SUCKER for anything handmade or handwritten. I keep all of the notes, poems, and songs my boyfriend wrote for me in a special place.
You can purchase inexpensive cards at your local dollar store, but if you’re crafty, create your own! Follow my Pinterest board to get some handmade card ideas.
Create a Playlist
Creating a playlist for your partner is a unique but thoughtful gift idea. I absolutely LOVE the thought of a playlist dedicated to me.
Start by picking out some of your favorite songs that remind you of memories of your loved one. It doesn’t matter if it’s old-school love jams, something to make them dance, or inspiring tunes—just share some songs that remind you of your partner.
If you want to make it really old-school, make a CD mix for your partner. That is if you still have a CD burner in your computer or not. If not, Spotify should do the trick.

Plan a Spa Day
Planning a relaxing spa day with your partner is a great way to unwind and reconnect.
If you’re okay with spending some money, take your partner to the spa or get a couple’s massage. But if you’re looking to save some money, I’d suggest a DIY spa day. Your local department store should sell the items you need.
You can use whichever products help you and your partner feel relaxed. These are my suggestions in case you need some ideas:
- Essential oils
- Face masks
- Moisturizer
- Body lotion
- Nail polish
- Bath bomb/salts
- Eye masks
- Candles
- Body scrub
- Facial roller
- Warm towels and a robe
Create a Mini Scrapbook
Looking for a crafty gift idea for your partner? How about a scrapbook of memories?
This memorable keepsake is something they can cherish forever—plus, it’s both affordable and fun to make. Everything you need to create a beautiful scrapbook filled with your special moments can be found at your local craft store, JOANN, or Michaels.
Here are some suggested scrapbooking supplies you might want to pick up:
- Scrapbook (8×8 or 5×7 for mini)
- Card stock
- Scissors, glue sticks, pens, markers
- Photo corners
- Stickers
- Scrap paper
- Ruler
Whether it’s just pictures and funny notes or if you want to add some quotes and artwork—pile in the memories and photos. It will be a one-of-a-kind surprise your partner can cherish.
I’m 27 years old but I’m an old lady at heart, so check out my Pinterest board for tons of scrapbooking ideas!
Plan a Road Trip
While a road trip can be expensive, it doesn’t have to be.
Ask yourself these questions first: Is there a museum or restaurant that your partner enjoys in another town? Is there a park they like to visit? Think about the inexpensive yet enjoyable places you could plan a mini road trip to.
Before hitting the road, it’s also important to do some planning as far as food, snacks, and entertainment goes. Pack a bag or cooler full of your partner’s favorite snacks and drinks. Make a road trip playlist you’ll both enjoy.
Don’t Break the Bank this Valentine’s Day
Though some may believe that Valentine’s Day is a Hallmark holiday, it can still be a special and affordable day for you and your partner. By planning ahead or getting creative, you can give your loved one a gift they will cherish without breaking the bank.
